Netflix's Inkubator team is hiring a CG/GenAI Generalist to work on animated shorts and specials built through experimental generative AI production pipelines. This is a full-time, on-site role in Los Angeles sitting at the intersection of traditional CG artistry and cutting-edge AI tooling. The position may fall under a collective bargaining agreement with a floor rate of $62.74/hour. Only 19 applicants so far and it just went up. If you're a CG artist who's been deep in the generative AI space and wants to help build the future of animated storytelling, this is a rare opportunity.

Company Overview

Netflix is one of the world's largest entertainment services with over 10,000 employees globally. Inkubator is their experimental creative division focused on developing new production methods and storytelling formats. This particular team is pioneering GenAI-native production pipelines that blend generative AI tools with traditional animation techniques, currently producing animated shorts and specials with plans to expand into longer-form content.

Position Overview

You'll be part of a team creating animated content using a hybrid pipeline that combines generative AI with traditional CG workflows. The role touches everything from concept frames and character explorations to shot-ready asset creation and model fine-tuning. You'll work directly with directors, producers, and technology teams to shape both the visual output and the workflows themselves. This isn't a role where the tools and processes are locked in. You'll be helping build and document those processes in real time as the team figures out what works at feature quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with CG and Generative AI specialists to produce content for animated shorts and specials using a GenAI-native pipeline that merges generative tools with traditional animation methods
  • Partner with creative leadership to develop storytelling and visual aesthetics that hit feature-quality standards aligned with the director's vision
  • Contribute to short-form story production in a fast-paced, sprint-based environment
  • Use GenAI tools like ComfyUI to generate concept frames, style frames, character studies, and environment designs from scripts, outlines, or verbal direction
  • Test and evaluate emerging generative tools throughout development, staying open to pivoting as new technology becomes available
  • Build shot-ready assets including characters, props, and environments using a mix of generative tools and traditional software like Photoshop, Maya, Houdini, Harmony, and Blender
  • Train and fine-tune generative image and video models
  • Compare multiple generative tools and workflows including different models, LoRAs, and motion tools, then document findings and recommend best practices
  • Help develop and document new hybrid GenAI/traditional workflows alongside production and technology teams to improve efficiency and creative output

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with ComfyUI and traditional 2D and/or 3D CG software including Photoshop, Maya, Houdini, Harmony, and/or Blender
  • Experience creating and animating assets within Unreal Engine including terrains, layout, characters, control rigs, and lighting
  • Ability to develop character and visual designs that match a specific style and sensibility with attention to personality, mood, and tone
  • Solid conceptual understanding of diffusion-based rendering and animation techniques; experience training image and video LoRAs is a plus
  • Strong collaborative skills for working alongside directors, producers, and tech leads in rapidly evolving experimental pipelines
  • Passion for storytelling and animation backed by a portfolio showing compelling narrative work using AI tools, with strength in visual storytelling, comedy, and innovative thinking
  • Adaptability to new technologies and the ability to pivot quickly as workflows and creative approaches develop in real time
  • High level of independence and initiative given that production support structures will be evolving alongside the creative work

Compensation and Benefits

Minimum rate of $62.74/hour under applicable collective bargaining agreement, with potential for better terms as negotiated. Benefits may include medical, dental, and vision plans, mental health support, retirement programs, family-forming benefits, and paid time away for vacation and sick leave.
