DramaBox is hiring a Chief Script Editor to lead script localization and quality control for their American market. This is a senior editorial role based on-site in California paying $10K to $12K per month. You'll work directly with screenwriters to shape story outlines, polish English scripts, coordinate with production, and drive content planning based on Western audience trends.

They offer a large on-demand library of episodic content built for mobile consumption and are expanding rapidly in the U.S. as vertical storytelling becomes one of the fastest-growing formats in digital entertainment. 

Position Overview

This is an editorial leadership role bridging Chinese-language source material and English-language production. You'll collaborate with screenwriters on story design and detailed plot development, oversee the translation and localization of Chinese scripts into polished English, manage content quality at every stage, and coordinate directly with the production team around script table reads and filming requirements. On the strategic side, you'll analyze global short drama trends and plan content with a deep understanding of what Western audiences respond to, specifically hook-driven storytelling and emotionally resonant female-lead narratives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with screenwriters to design story outlines and detailed plots, ensuring character development, story arcs, and dialogue are shaped for local Western audiences
  • Assist screenwriters with script translation and localization from Chinese, overseeing content quality, identifying issues, proposing improvements, and delivering polished final English scripts
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the production team, participate in script table reads, and adjust content as needed to meet filming requirements
  • Analyze global short drama trends with a strong grasp of Western culture and digital content patterns, planning and adapting content based on overseas market demand using hook-driven structures and emotionally engaging female-lead tropes

Requirements

  • Deep passion for web literature combined with extensive experience consuming film and TV content
  • Strong familiarity with web novel formats and the preferences of Western audiences
  • Genuine understanding of Western pop culture with the ability to identify trending content and spot new opportunities in the export market
  • Strong content judgment, planning, and execution capabilities with the ability to motivate and lead a team
  • Excellent grasp of visual language, cinematic grammar, and pacing in a short-form context
  • Professional English proficiency highly preferred
