LOCALIZATION SCREENWRITER

DramaBox is hiring a Localization Screenwriter to adapt mini series scripts for North American audiences. This is a full-time, on-site role in LA focused on taking original scripts (many originating from Chinese-language source material) and reworking them so they land authentically for Western viewers.

Position Overview

This role bridges two storytelling traditions. You'll work alongside Chinese-American writers and internal script editors to take original scripts and reshape them for North American sensibilities. That means reworking dialogue, adjusting narrative pacing, refining character arcs, and making sure the emotional core of each story translates without feeling foreign or awkward. You're not translating word for word. You're rebuilding the script so it feels like it was always written for the audience that's going to watch it, while keeping the original intact where it matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Chinese-American writers and in-house script editors to adapt original scripts for authentic North American audience reception
• Rework dialogue, story pacing, and character development to match Western cultural expectations and storytelling conventions
• Preserve the heart and intent of the original material while making it more accessible and engaging for the target market
• Contribute creative ideas and localization perspective throughout the script development process

Requirements

• Native English speaker with strong screenwriting ability
• Demonstrated experience writing or adapting scripts for TV mini series, especially for international or cross-cultural audiences
• Educational background in film, television, creative writing, or a related discipline is strongly preferred
• Solid understanding of North American web literature trends and a working familiarity with Chinese mini series styles, themes, and storytelling patterns
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
